Not landing in the party with parachute; have 30 years of experience from grassroots: Bhupen Borah
Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Bhupen Kumar Borah firmly rejected the notion of a “parachute landing” in response to rumours about his potential removal from the post.
Borah acknowledged that his position is at the discretion of the party’s high command, emphasizing that he does not hold ultimate authority over the APCC post.
“I am not the authority of APCC post. But I am sitting on the chair of APCC president at the pleasure of the AICC high command,” Borah told reporters here on Tuesday.
“You ask Jitendra Singh; he is coming tomorrow. Ask the person who desires to be president. I am loyal to the party and will continue to work for it. When the party says that my term is over, I will do the work entrusted to me,” Borah also said.
Borah emphasized his longstanding commitment to the Congress Party, stating, “I am not coming to the Congress with a parachute landing. I was the secretary of the Youth Congress and then president. I was also the secretary of APCC, general secretary, and AICC secretary before being appointed as APCC president. I have been working for the party for the last 30 years.”
Borah affirmed his approach to his role, stating, “I am coming to this position step by step. The party high command will take the final call. I will abide by the orders of my party high command.”
As regards to Ripun Borah’s joining in the Congress, the Assam Congress chief said the AICC will take the final decision. “We all welcome if he comes back to Congress. We will also discuss with the grassroots workers about his joining.”
“But the final decision will be taken by AICC because Ripun Borah was in the highest post of APCC before joining the TMC,” he said.
Borah informed that the APCC will have extended executive meeting in Charaideo on September 8. More than 400 delegates, including all office bearers, MPs, ex-MPs, MLAs former MLAs, former ministers, our frontal heads, cell and departments chairman, APCC members, executive members and spokespersons will join the meeting.
“We will take some important resolution, we keep it ready, but will adopt after discussion,” he added.
