Noted Khasi music instructor Rojet Buhphang passes away
Known as master craftsman of traditional musical instruments and winner of Sangeet Natak Akademi, Rojet Buhphang passed away on Monday after a prolonged illness at his residence at Wahkhen, Pynursla.
The musician is the master instructor at Sieng Riti Institute, Wahkhen which is also a reputed center of cultural learning and training in traditional music and the customary practices of Wahkhen village.
Children and adults from the village learn and get their training from the Institute which has also attracted tourists from across the globe.
The master instructor also crafted traditional musical instruments – such as ka ka ksing, tangmuri, ka duitara and many other Khasi musical instruments.
Besides his engagement with the Institute, Buhphang was one of the traditional engineers who built the bamboo bridge at Wahkhen. The bamboo bridge is built over steep rocks overlooking deep ridges of Wahkhen. He is also the treasurer of Tourism Promoters Trekking Society (TPTS) of Wahkhen.
He will be cremated at Wahkhen, Pynursla on Wednesday.
