NPP expelled PN Syiem for anti party activity
SHILLONG: The National People’s Party (NPP) has expelled Mawkhar-Pynthorumkhrah MDC and chairman of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), Pynshngain N Syiem for indulging in anti-party activities.
The decision was taken by the disciplinary committee of the party in its meeting held here on Sunday.
In its letter to Syiem, NPP state president Dr WR Kharlukhi said, “The disciplinary committee of the NPP which met on November 24, has decided to expel you from the party for anti-party activities.”
This came after Syiem had supported the No-confidence motion moved by the Congress which led to the collapsed of the NPP backed United Democratic Alliance-led executive committee in the just concluded winter session of the Council.
Along with Syiem, deputy chairman Alvin Khyriem Sawkmie and ex-EM Mitchel Wankhar, both from NPP also voted in favour of the NC.
Earlier, Kharlukhi had termed the decision of Syiem to support the Congress as anti party activity.
According to him, the NPP can never work with the Congress as it is part of the ruling Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government in the state.
It may be mentioned that Syiem had also castes his vote to elect the new CEM Latiplang Kharkongor, leader of the United Democratic Forum (UDF).
The UDF comprised of the Congress, NPP, PDF and Independents.
After the CEM’s election, a delegation comprising of 14 UDA members also met deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong and sought the state government’s intervention into the political development in the KHADC arising out of what they alleged is the “unconstitutional role” of the Chairman.
