NPP-led Govt dares to take bold decision on resolving 6 out of 12 areas of difference with Assam: Gavin M Mylliem
Sohra legislator Gavin M Mylliem has said it is only the National People’s Party (NPP)-led state government, which has dared to take a bold decision to resolve the age-old boundary dispute with Assam.
“The issue has been pending since Meghalaya got its statehood but after it is only this government led by the NPP which has taken a bold decision to resolve 6 out of 12 areas of difference with Assam,” Mylliem said while speaking at an election campaign to drum up support for the party candidate from Langkyrdem-Laitkroh Rahboklang Tynsong at Laitlyngkot-Nongkynrih on Saturday.
He said the state government has constituted the different regional committees to find ways and means to resolve the issue of boundary dispute at the earliest.
“We are happy that we have already completed the signing of MoU for the six resolved areas of difference between the Meghalaya CM and Assam CM in the presence of union home minister Amit Shah (on March 29, 2022 in New Delhi),” he said.
“We cannot deny the fact that there will be both merits and demerits but what is important is that we try to take a decision to resolve the issue for ensuring lasting peace in the border areas,” Mylliem added.
Further, the Sohra MLA said that the present government is also giving special focus on the education sector.
“Despite the fact that we are facing huge challenges on this sector but the state government has taken many steps to streamline the education sector,” he claimed while adding “In regards to the vacant teacher posts in government schools, which have been pending for many years due to a court case, it is this government which has appealed before the High Court and the High Court has allowed filling up the various vacancies. Accordingly in 2021, we have seen thousands of posts filled up and this has benefited the students and unemployed youth.”
He also urged the people to extend their full support to the party candidate and said the present NPP-led EC in KHADC has passed many important Bills for the protection of the indigenous community which is a reflection that the party has the intention to serve the people and the region as a whole.
