NPP-led Govt is a Govt with courage, dares to take up challenging issues, says Conrad K Sangma
National People’s Party (NPP) national chief and chief minister of Meghalaya Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday said the state government led by his party is a government with courage as it has been able to address many challenging issues, which other governments in the past have shied away from.
Addressing at the election campaign to garner mass support for Ampareen Lyngdoh, candidate of Shillong parliamentary constituency, at Ladthadlaboh, Jowai, Sangma said, “We as a government have the courage, I believe, we have the courage to take up issues which many past governments did not dare to take up.”
Sangma also welcomed a host of leaders belonging to the Congress, BJP and TMC to the NPP family.
These include BJP MDC from Sumer Krison Langstang, Congress MLA candidates from Mowkaiaw and Jowai – Nehemayah Tyngkan and Daniel Dann and TMC MLA candidate Lasting Suchiang among others.
Highlighting the government’s proactive stance, he reiterated their dedication to serving the people of the state and enhancing their lives. “Whether it was the Them metor issue, whether it was the issue of the assembly building, we took up the matter. Whether it is the Border issue, we took up the Border issue. Whether it is the Coal issue, we took up the Coal issue,” he asserted, underscoring the government’s resolve to confront various issues head-on.
“There are other political parties who will not be made many emotions different. We don’t want to talk in Hindi, you’ll see. Let me tell them that right after you crossed Khanapara, I’m going to speak in Hindi only. If you go to parliament, you’ll have to speak in Hindi only. You’ll have to listen in Hindi. If you want to solve the Border issue, you will have to speak in the same way,” Sangma passionately emphasized, addressing concerns regarding linguistic diversity.
“Loving yourself and your language does not mean that you hate others. That is not the way that religion teaches us. Yes, we know that people, but it doesn’t mean we hate others. I don’t believe in this, I don’t believe in this,” he added, urging for mutual respect and understanding.
In a direct message to political adversaries, Chief Minister Sangma emphasized the importance of embracing linguistic diversity without undermining any language or culture. “Loving yourself and your language does not mean that you hate others,” he remarked, urging unity amidst diversity. However, he criticized other political parties for their lack of understanding and commitment to addressing crucial issues such as the border dispute.
Asserting the government’s dedication to resolving differences and advancing the state’s development agenda, Chief Minister Sangma called for unity and collaboration among leaders and supporters. “We need our members of parliament in Delhi to fight for the issues that we have, like the border issue, like an Eight Schedule issue, like different issues of development and scheme,” he emphasized.
“And that’s why, if Dr. Ampreen Lyngdoh, the NPP candidate for the Shillong Constituency, garners the support of all leaders and everyone present here today, alongside Tura MP Agatha Sangma and the Meghalaya government, I am very sure that we will work together as a team and able to take our state forward.” Conrad added
