NPP MLA submit proposal for transforming Jowai into a ‘smart town’
NPP legislator from Jowai, Wailadmiki Shylla has sought the intervention of the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma for developing the district headquarters of West Jaintia Hills into a ‘smart town’.
“I feel with the help of the government, time is right for Jowai to be transformed to a smart town,” said Shylla in a memorandum submitted to the CM on Friday.
He said Jowai, being one of the oldest and prominent towns in the state, has been left neglected without any developments.
The MLA informed that the condition of the roads is horrible and there is no proper drainage system, footpaths, parking area, toilets and others.
According to him, safety measures such as CCTV installations and streetlights are not in place.
Meanwhile, NPP leader from Jaintia Hills and transport minister Sniawbhalang Dhar has extended full support to the proposal of the Jowai MLA.
“I really appreciate the move made by Shylla on this regard,” Dhar said while assuring that he would also take up the matter with the government.
Asked, the senior minister said that the estimated cost of the proposed project may be over Rs 100 crore but nothing has been finalized yet.
