SHILLONG: The National People’s Party (NPP), People’s Democratic Front (PDF) and an Independent MDC on Sunday formed the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).
The PDA will be working together with the Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA) which includes the United Democratic Party (UDP) and Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) to form a “stable” executive committee (EC) in the KHADC.
The decision was taken at a meeting held here and attended by nine MDCs which include NPP leader Pynshngain N Syiem, PDF MDC from Umsning Macdalyne Sawkmie Mawlong and Independent MDC and MLA from Nongkrem Lambor Malngiang.
“The PDA formed today will be working with the RDA to form the new executive committee in the KHADC,” Syiem said.
The former KHADC chief also informed that the PDA will be headed by Lambor Malngiang as chairman and Macdalyne Sawkmie Mawlong as secretary.
Asked, Syiem who was also elected as Parliamentary Party (PP) leader of the NPP said that the joint meeting of the PDA and RDA will be held tomorrow to decide on the chief executive member (CEM) post.
On the other hand, Malngiang said the PDA was formed to ensure stability and smooth functioning of the new executive committee.
“We would like to ensure that the EC to be formed between the PDA and RDA will last its full term unlike the previous years where we have witnessed six CEMs in five years which has affected the Council,” he said.
According to the PDA chairman, the alliance is having the same combination of political parties supporting the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance in the state.
When asked, Malngiang said the post of CEM may go to the United Democratic Party (UDP) while for the other posts which include deputy CEM, chairman, deputy chairman and executive members there will be adjustment between the two alliances in the KHADC.
