NPP predicts Mukul will no longer be the Congress’ face
The ruling National People’s Party (NPP) has alleged that the Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma and his brother Zenith Sangma are feeling threatened ahead of 2023 Assembly elections, with Vincent H Pala taking charge of the Congress in Meghalaya.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, NPP spokesman Nickey Nongkhlaw said that the Congress in the state has undergone a restructuring recently after months of power struggle and infighting, at the centre of which was Mukul who was trying to pull all strings by himself.
“The dictatorial Mukul’s image and control over the party is now at stake, whereby he and his brother Zenith are feeling threatened in the run up to the 2023 elections with Vincent Pala in-charge of the party,” he said.
The NPP leader was reacting to the allegations made by the Congress spokesperson Zenith Sangma against the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government on the power department.
Nongkhlaw further alleged that there is a real possibility that Mukul will no longer be the face of the Congress in the state.
“In fact, there is a reason why Mukul’s name features nowhere in the current party leadership because presently, it is a real possibility that Mukul will not be the face of the party anymore no matter how desperate he tries,” he said.
“With other Congress members trying to step up, the only thing both Mukul and Zenith can now do is try and manipulate the public to win their favour or else be sidelined,” he further alleged.
