NPP to field Agatha for Tura seat, Ferlin for Selsella by-poll
SHILLONG: The National People’s Party (NPP) today announced its first list of two candidates from Meghalaya and Manipur for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, slated to be held on April 11.
It has also decided to field a former bureaucrat Ferlin CA Sangma as the candidate for the elections to the Selsella Assembly seat, which will be held on the same date.
The decision was taken at the meeting of the central election committee headed by the NPP national president Conrad K Sangma held on Friday.
For Meghalaya, the NPP is again fielding former Member of Parliament (MP) Agatha K Sangma for the Tura seat while four-time MLA Thangminlien Kipgen for Outer Manipur seat, Conrad said after the meeting.
Agatha was the former Tura MP and also a former MLA of South Tura. She had last year resigned as South Tura MLA to pave way for her brother to continue as chief minister of Meghalaya.
Meanwhile, the NPP national chief informed that the party is expecting more applications to come in and in a day or two it will also be announcing the second list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
It may be mentioned here that the NPP had recently adopted a resolution to contest from all 25 seats in the North East region.
