NPP’s support to BJP govt in Manipur based on NDA, NEDA spirit
The National People’s Party (NPP) has extended full support to the Biren Singh-led BJP government in Manipur.
Speaking to reporters, NPP national president and Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma said based on the discussion held with the Manipur chief minister and the party’s central leadership, the NPP MLAs have decided to support the Biren Singh-led government in Manipur.
This was after a general consensus was built up that the NPP being a party which is supporting the NDA government at the centre and also being a member of the NEDA, it will be in the right spirit to support the government that is there, he said.
Asked, Sangma said, “That is the prerogative of the chief minister, that is something we don’t have anything to say. Our support is on the basis of the spirit of NDA and overall spirit of NEDA that we move forward.”
Stating that there was nothing wrong in the relationship of the NPP and the BJP, the NPP chief said, “When we contest elections we contest on our terms and once we move forward in coalition and government formation that is a different story. Therefore, the MLAs sat down, they discussed, we sent from the central leadership of the party, they went and discussed with the MLAs.
After that was done the very next day the letter of support was given so therefore it is a process that has to be followed and as a party.”
