Nursing conference on Cancer Care held at NEIGRIHMS

NEIGRIHMS successfully concluded the State-level Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) Conference on Oncology Nursing, held on April 4 under the theme “Cancer Care Re-imagined: Multidisciplinary Collaboration and the Nurse’s Role”. The conference witnessed an overwhelming participation of over 750 nursing professionals from across the state.
The conference featured a series of insightful sessions led by renowned experts, covering crucial topics such as the importance of screening and early detection, treatment modalities, the nurse’s role in cancer care, nutrition, communication of difficult news, pain and palliative care, and building psychological resilience.
In his inaugural address, Chief Guest, Prof. Nalin Mehta, Director NEIGRIHMS highlighted the importance of protocols-based nursing care to maintain ethical standards in patient care. Recognizing nurses as the backbone of the healthcare delivery system Prof. Mehta appreciated the importance of such events to empower the nursing workforce by sharing the ideas and knowledge. Prof. Animesh Mishra, Medical Superintendent and Dean (In-Charge) lauded the dedication of nurses in bridging disciplines to enhance patient outcomes.
Dr. Vikas Jagtap, Head of the Department of Radiation Oncology emphasized the nursing role in multidisciplinary management to address the complexities of cancer care. He highlighted that nurses with their constant presence at the bedside play an instrumental role in transforming healthcare environments into spaces of healing and comfort. Adding to this, Dr. Caleb Harris, Head of the Department of Surgical Oncology, emphasized that effective cancer care requires shared responsibility across all medical disciplines. He acknowledged the critical role of oncology nurses in ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, and patient-centered care.
Irene A Nongtraw, Nursing Superintendent and Chief Coordinator of the CNE Cell emphasized the pivotal role of nurses, who not only deliver clinical expertise but also provide compassionate care throughout the patient’s cancer journey.
The event showcased the unwavering commitment of the CNE Cell NEIGRIHMS in advancing nursing education and equipping nurses with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide holistic, patient-centered cancer care
