One arrested in Umpleng quadruple murder case
One person has been arrested for allegedly involved in the recent quadruple murder case in Umpleng village, which falls under East Jaintia Hills District.
“In connection with the recent discoveries of dead bodies of four persons in Umpleng area on July 6, suspected to have been murdered, a case was registered under section 103/3(5) BNS, and during the course of investigation, one person was arrested,” district police chief Giri Prasad said on Thursday.
He said that the details of the arrested person are not being disclosed in the interest of investigation.
“Investigation is ongoing to trace and to arrest the other person(s) involved in the case,” the SP assured.
On July 6, four persons were found brutally murdered with their heads severed in remote Umpleng village.
According to police, the victims were also found with their hands and feet bound in the same place in a forested area in the outskirts of the village.
The deceased persons identified by their family members include Ravi Rai (23) of Patha Elam, Nepal, Rajesh Rai (26) Koshi, Anchal, Nepal and Nasar Kyndait (33) of Dkhiah East Pohshnong, East Jaintia Hills District.
A criminal case has been registered with the Khliehriat police station.
