One more dies in Assam floods, toll mounts to 26, 1.60 lakh affected
The flood situation in Assam turned grim with one woman dying in Hailakandi taking the toll to 26 in the recent wave of floods, an official bulletin of Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said here on Tuesday.
A woman identified as Bitai Sabdakar (39), a resident of Seirispore in Hailakandi drowned in Seiripore Mohontila near a culvert when she was going to collect money from someone. Later her body was recovered by the local public and sent to SK Roy Civil Hospital where doctorates declared her dead.
Altogether 1,61,209 people of 470 villages under 28 revenue circles of 15 districts were affected by the deluge, the ASDMA bulletin said.
The affected districts are Biswanath, Lakhimpur, Hojai, Bongaigaon, Nalbari, Tamulpur, Udalguri, Darrang, Dhemaji, Hailakandi, Karimganj, Goalpara, Nagaon, Chirang and Kokrajhar.
Karimganj is worst affected with 1,52,133 population from 225 villages under Nilambazar, RK Nagar, Karimganj and Badarpu revenue circles.
The Kopili is flowing above the danger level at Kampur in Nagaon district.
1378.64 hectares of cropland were also submerged by the deluge, the ASDMA said.
In Bongaigaon district, rain water submergence 9.5 hectares of crop fields in 28 villages under Boitamari sub-district.
In Hojai district, 62 hectares of cropland of 26 villages were submerged.
Six primary schools were inundated due to the rising water level of Kopili at Kampur in Nagaon district.
Urban flooding also affected three districts- Kamrup, Kamrup (M), Kokrajhar affecting more than 532 people in 13 wards/villages.
Due to incessant rain, some parts of wards 4, 5 and 6 under North Guwahati Municipal Board are waterlogged on Tuesday.
Due to heavy rain, waterlogging took place at Bamunimaidam, Chandmari, Anuradha, Gandhi Basti, Dispur. Waterlogging also took place on Sijubari, Hatigaon, Wireless, Greenland Path, Saneki Path, Rukminigaon Manasha Mandir Path, Kahilipara near SBI, Sagaon Patharquary Main Road, Anil Nagar, Nabin Nagar, Tarun Nagar, Bye Lane 9 Rupkonwar Path, Bye lane 3 Sahid Dilip Huzuri Path, Azara and many other places of the city.
43 relief camps and 27 relief distribution centres were opened in affected districts.
5,114 people, including 1,308 children have taken shelter at the relief camps.
93,895 domestic animals were affected by the floods across the state.
538.93 quintals of rice, 112.41 quintals of dal, 30.49 quintals of salt and 2614 litres of mustard oil were distributed among the affected people, the ASDMA said.
