One nation, one election the best policy: Hek

BJP leader and cabinet minister AL Hek on Wednesday said that one nation, one election is the best policy.
According to him, the proposal of simultaneous conduct of elections to the Lok Sabha and state assemblies will to a great extent minimize the expenditure aspects of it.
“One nation, one election is the best policy. That is my personal observation,” Hek told reporters.
“Today, we have so many elections in a year. In every election they will introduce the model code of conduct. If the model code of conduct is in place, it will hamper so many developments. So many elections lead to so many days of model code of conduct and so much expenditure will be involved. Who will be the ultimate loser, it is the citizens and people of the country,”he explained.
Asked, Hek said, “I have no problem winning or losing election but my concern is only for the development of the state and how to minimize unnecessary expenditure of the country and state of Meghalaya.”
If BJP will contest the upcoming Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) to be held next year, the BJP leader said that his party is the only party, which does not work only during elections.
“BJP is working throughout whether there is election or no election or any party or party work but BJP is working 24X7 for the people,” he said.
“We don’t hold meetings only before elections. What for we are a political party if we are not contesting the elections,” Hek further replied.
