One week Total Curfew imposed in West Jaintia Hills
In view of the continuous sharp spike in COVID-19 cases with 14% positivity rate for the period from 1st May to 17th May 2021 in West Jaintia Hills District and hospital bed occupancy nearing saturaton, Garod LSN Dykes, IAS, District Magistrate promulgated one week total curfew in the district from 6 PM of May 21 till 5.00 AM of June 1.
In exercise of the powers conferred upon him U/S. 144 Cr.P.C. read together with Regulation 3 of the Meghalaya Epidemic Diseases, COVID-19 Regulations 2020, Garod prohibited Inter-State and Inter District movement of persons except for essential services including Health Services.
The order will not apply for transit vehicles of Assam, Tripura, Manipur and Mizoram. All Transit Vehicles shall not be permitted to park in any inhabited villages along the NH-06 under the jurisdiction of west Jaintia Hills District Meghalaya.
Inter-District or Intra-District movement of persons is not permitted. No person is to step out without valid reasons. Vehicles plying without Passes will be liable for strict penalties. Any one in defiance of orders is liable for arrest.
Exemptions:
Health services including Vaccination Person(s) moving for vaccination should be able to produce proof of COWIN registration and slot booking.
Medicines and Pharmaceuticals.
Movement of Essential goods.
Movement for medical emergencies.
Persons travelling on Essential Government Duty viz:
a. Medical Teams and Officials on COVID 19 Duty.
b. Police, Security and Armed Forces.
c. Civil Defence and Home Guards.
d. Fire and Emergency Services.
e. Electricity.
f. Water Supply (PHE).
g. Municipal Services.
h. Public Distribution System
i. Information and Public Relations
j. Telecommunication Services.
k. Agricultural activities.
l. Veterinary services and feed and fodder movement for livestock of the farmers
m. Movement of persons and materials for construction of Oxygen Plant in MCH Jowai with valid identity card.

Shops dealing with food products dry, ration, meat, vegetables and toiletries within the localities wil be regulated va separate. Order headmen are advice to encourage Home Delivery by the vendors detailers from their own localities under the supervision of Incident Comander.
Funeral last rites restricted to 10 persons only with intimation to the Deputy Commissioner West Jaintia Hills District, Jowai Sub-Divisonal Officer (Civil) Sub-Division.
MGNREGA works Agriculture, Veternary and feed and fodder movement of livestock.
The order states that the authority granted to District Heads for issuing of Car Pass stand withdrawn. All Passes for activities not permitted will be revoked with effect from 6.00 PM of 21st May 2021
For Medical Emergency and Inter-District Transportation of Essential Goods, the citizens are advised to apply for the EPASS” from the District portal westjaintiahills.gov.in
All permitted activities are subject to strict compliance to these guidelines and the social distancing protocols issued by the Health and Family Welfare Department, Government of Meghalaya.
