Opp AITC asks Govt to stop additional charge by payment gateway
Opposition All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) on Friday asked the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) to take up the issue relating to the additional charge of Rs 5.9 for online payment of electricity bills through payment gateway.
This should not be allowed since other portals are doing it for free, AITC legislator from Nongthymmai Charles Pyngrope said while raising a supplementary query in the Assembly.
The request was made after the Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Power Prestone Tynsong had informed the House that the MeECL has engaged one vendor who is dealing with such portals.
The MeECL is paying Rs 2.50 for each transfer and this is not tranferred to the customers.
However, the additional charge is the banking commission which is charged from the concerned customers.
“If we talked about this (additional charge), MeECL has no role to play as you have to take up with your concerned banker,” Tynsong said.
He however assured to examine the concern raised by the MLA.
When AITC legislator from Rangsakona Zenith Sangma wanted to know whether the MeECL is self-rellant, Tynsong however said, “We are not at all self-sufficient to support the day to day requirement of the corporation that is why we are compelled to take loan from the open market.”
