Opp Cong launches digital enrolment drive for primary membership in Meghalaya
The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) chief Vincent H Pala on Thursday launched the party’s digital drive for primary membership enrolment in the state.
Addressing media persons, Pala said that the enrollment drive will start from November 1 to March 31, next year.
“Our target is to get 30 percent primary membership of the total of 17 lakh voters in Meghalaya,” he added.
Talking about the party’s decision to go digital for primary membership drive, the Shillong MP said that the Congress has always been at the forefront of adopting new technologies, which are people friendly and help bring efficiency in things it does.
“This vision and its tenets are ingrained in the ethos of the MPCC and these have been carried forward from the vision our late PM, Indira Gandhi who vehemently believed in our calling of our unique identity and inculcating our culture by granting us, without an ounce of doubt, statehood fifty years ago and of late Rajiv Gandhi, who has brought in IT revolution in the country,” he said.
He further said, “Taking their vision forward, we are introducing state of the art technology to enroll primary members, this is our first step in enriching the lives of citizens of Meghalaya and a small glimpse of things we are developing to bring about efficiency of governance in the times to come. The technology will help the registration process for both the young and old in enrolling themselves and becoming an active member of the party. I appeal to all the citizens of Meghalaya to come forward, join this movement and let’s make our tomorrow brighter.”
Pala said the Congress party has set up a simple process using chatbot on whatsapp, wherein the user has to send a simple ‘Hi’ or’Hello’ to 9077909175, whereafter the user will be asked for name, voter id number, and has to upload the pic of voter id and take a selfie and upload.
This entire process takes less than a minute and once this is done, the information fed in by the user is verified at the back-end and once verified, a digital primary member identity card is sent to the user on WhatsApp.
