Opp Cong lodges complaint against police in Rajabala
The opposition Congress on Friday lodged a complaint against the police for allegedly misusing relevant sections of the law.
In a letter to the Returning Officer for Rajabala bye-election, President of the West Garo Hills District Congress Committee Zenith Sangma alleged that the police, while acting on the FIR filed by the supporters of the National People’s Party (NPP), has invoked the stringent sections of the law while arresting few people, who according to their FIR are alleged accused.
He said this action of the police is indicative of pre-determined motive so that they will be debarred from getting bail.
“This very action of the police has created a vitiated environment causing fear psychosis which will affect the free and fair election. Therefore, on behalf of the party and as a responsible citizen, I would like to urge upon you to take necessary action to instill confidence and restore peace and thereby ensure free and fair election,” Sangma stated in the letter.
