Opp Congress all set to table NC against MDA government

The opposition Congress is all set to table a No-confidence motion against the National People’s Party (NPP)-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government on Tuesday for its failure in all fronts especially in protecting the interest of the state.

“During this session, the opposition will table a motion expressing its want of confidence in the council of ministers led by the incumbent chief minister Conrad K Sangma  in view of the failure of the government in all fronts particularly the failure to protect the interest of the state,” Leader of Opposition, Mukul Sangma told reporters on Monday.

He said when there is an issue of protecting the interest of the state and government is seen to be completely insensitive and trying to shy away from its responsibility, there cannot be any situation which can be a dangerous precedent for the state as a whole.

“Therefore, the House is the best platform where issues can be appropriately flagged before the government, draw the attention of the members of the august house and see how the house collectively look at the interest of the state as the priority and how the interest of the state supercede everything,” Sangma said.

The former chief minister said that the motion will be taken up on Tuesday as he added that it will depend on the wisdom of the Speaker, whether the motion can be taken up immediately or subsequently – we will be guided by the rules.

Asked whether the intention is to topple the government, Sangma however said that the opposition do not predict because what happens in the house cannot be taken for granted in advance.

“It depends on the conscience and realization of the members of the august house if the members of the august house have a realization of the fact that the interest of the state is under threat,” he said.

If the opposition will approach the ruling members for support, the leader of opposition said, “The purpose of today’s sharing our intent before you is precisely to send this message loud and clear whoever loves the state and whoever wants to protect the interest of the state I think they will definitely look at their respective roles and realign their respective positive.”
