Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma on Tuesday accused the NPP-led MDA government for promoting the culture of corruption.

Speaking to reporters, Sangma also demanded for an independent inquiry into the alleged illegal mining of coal and its transportation in the state.

“If they (MDA government) don’t institute an independent inquiry, I will ask the Prime Minister to do it,” he said.

According to him, the illegal activities are an eye opener for the government of India.

Sangma also said that illegalities be it transportation or mining of coal have also been carried out by the media in Bangladesh.

He said the reports had mentioned losses of revenue due to illegal mining and export of minerals from Meghalaya to Bangladesh.
