Opp Congress to wait for Speaker’s ruling on petition for disqualifying 3 MLAs before deciding on next course of action
The opposition Congress will take a decision on its next course of action based on the ruling of the Assembly Speaker Thomas A Sangma on the petition seeking immediate disqualification of the three MLAs for defecting to the National People’s Party (NPP).
Speaking to media persons, Congress leader and opposition chief whip Ronnie V Lyngdoh said, “The matter is with the Speaker. Now the Speaker is yet to make his decision. If the Speaker gives his decision, then we will accordingly take our next course of action.”
Asked, Lyngdoh said, “It depends on the decision of the Speaker. Now we cannot take decisions in anticipation until and unless the Speaker gives his decision.”
The Congress leader informed that the party will soon send a reminder to the Speaker requesting him to pass an order on the matter.
“We will remind him (Speaker) and request him to give his decision. We will wait for his decision as it is may be he is consulting legal experts then accordingly we will take a decision on this matter,” he added.
The Congress had filed two petitions – one against the two suspended MLAs – Charles Marngar (Mawhati) and Gabriel Wahlang (Nongstoin) and the other against Dr Celestine Lyngdoh (Umsning) – after they joined the NPP on August 19.
