Opp to represent voice of the people over MSIPF: Mukul

Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma on Wednesday asked the state government to avoid bulldozing on issues that goes against the people following the stiff opposition on the move to pass the amendments of Meghalaya State Investment Promotion and Facilitation Act during the current budget session of the Assembly.
Speaking to reporters, Sangma said that successive governments in the past have never bulldozed and they demonstrated through their actions.
“Therefore, we expect the present government to demonstrate the same sensitivity and share the concern and not land up shrugging off issues and bulldoze issues that go against the people,” he said.
Asked if the opposition would stop the government from passing the amendment bill, Sangma said, “We will represent the voice of our own people coming from all parts of the state. We must articulate it in the right earnest and we expect the government to be sensitive to the concerns because that is how the whole spirit of democracy operates.”
“Meghalaya as a state has demonstrated in the past that any concern on any issue, we had always tried to engage and take everybody on board and wherever there is concern based on certain something which is reflective of concern revolving around what is going to happen in reality if certain decisions are made contrary to the interest of the people, which we need to protect then it will negative ramification.”
On Tuesday, the KSU had staged a protest march to the Assembly demanding the state government to immediately revoke or repeal the MSIPF.
Sangma further emphasized the need for the government to create a healthier environment where people will understand the benefits of investments and not have that sense of insecurity.
“Since sense of insecurity will start developing when there is doubt about the intent. Now here, there is every reason for people to doubt the intent. Why do you say direct buying that means you want to supersede all existing laws and regulations? Now this intent somehow creates that sense of insecurity and that sense of insecurity creates that vicious environment which is not good for investment,” he stated.
