Over 16,000 health workers to be vaccinated from Jan 16: Hek
Health Minister AL Hek today said the first phase of the covid vaccination programme will be rolled out on January 16.
“We are getting around 35,000 doses from Serum Institute of India. The vaccines will cover approximately 16,000 health workers,” Hek told reporters.
He said all arrangements have been made including cold storage facility for rolling out the first phase of the covid vaccination from January 16.
According to the health minister, the vaccination drive would start in two districts – East Khasi Hills and West Garo Hills.
Asked, Hek said being health minister, he is ready to be the first person to get vaccinated at any time.
Meanwhile, Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War informed that the vaccines have reached the state and are stored at the central vaccine store, Pasteur Institute.
“Initiatlly 16,000 health workers will be vaccinated,” he said.
Dr War said the vaccination drive will be launched in 11 sites. These include NEIGRIHMS, Mawphlang CHC, Nongstoin CHC, Sutnga CHC, Pamra Paithlu CHC, Williamnagar civil hospital, Holy Cross hospital, Ampati civil hospital, Resubelpara CHC, Jowai civil hospital and Umsning CHC.
