Over 500 members of different pol parties join Congress in Meghalaya
The Congress on Friday welcomed the joining of over 500 leaders and workers from various political parties, including the NPP, VPP, and UDP.
According to the leaders of the party, this significant milestone marks a major boost to the party’s resurgence in Meghalaya.
The new members were welcomed by Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) leader and Mylliem legislator Ronnie V Lyngdoh in the presence of vice president and KHADC deputy CEM PN Syiem, working president Deborah Marak at the Congress Bhavan.
Addressing media persons, Ronnie Lyngdoh said, “The meeting today was held to welcome members belonging to different political parties who have joined the Congress party. They were earlier members of TMC, NPP, UDP and VPP and they have decided to join the Congress because they stated that it is only the Congress party that can work for the interest of the people of the state.”
Asked, he informed that TMC from Nongthymmai have been dissolved and about 1500 of its members have enrolled and joined the Congress.
“We will organize a meeting very soon in Nongthymmai to welcome all these members, who have decided to associated with the Congress,” Lyngdoh said.
The others who have joined the party were from Jirang, Sohiong and Mawthadraishan.
“Though now we have only 1 MLA and 2 MDCs they are still willing to join the Congress party and that only shows that the people would like to support, would like to ensure that the Congress party becomes stronger, strengthen to serve the interest of the people of the state,” he said.
PN Syiem emphasized the importance of the Congress playing a critical role in forming a dynamic team of young and experienced leaders to drive Meghalaya’s development.
The Congress party has consistently supported the people of Meghalaya since the state’s inception. With renewed energy and commitment, the MPCC looks forward to welcoming more members to the Congress party, he said.
