PAC seeks report over delay to complete Jowai abattoir
The Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has directed the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary department to submit a report on the delay to complete the abattoir at Jowai in West Jaintia Hills district.
“We have asked the department to submit a report as to when the abattoir will be completed,” PAC chairman and Nongthymmai legislator Charles Pyngrope told reporters after a meeting held with the officials of the department on Friday.
It may be mentioned that Rs 7.65 crore was sanctioned for the construction of the mechanized abattoir in Jowai.
The PAC in 2015 had conducted a site inspection and found out that several anomalies as far as execution of the project was concerned. The Committee had also expressed surprise to see that the project was yet to take off even after the work was allotted in September 2012.
The work was allotted to a Chennai-based consortium and its local partner Rishan Rapsang
