Pahalgam attack: Assam Congress chief urges strong retaliation against Pakistan, offers unconditional support to Centre

Responding to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam that left 26 civilians dead, Assam Congress president Bhupen Kumar Borah on Thursday called for a strong and decisive response from India against Pakistan, which he squarely blamed for the act of terror.
“This is not just an attack on 26 innocent lives—it’s an assault on every Indian. Pakistan must be held accountable, and India must respond with strength and clarity,” Borah told reporters in Guwahati.
While pointing out a lapse in security despite a three-layered protection system in Pahalgam, Borah refrained from politicizing the tragedy. Instead, he called for national unity and urged all citizens, regardless of caste, religion, or region, to come together against terrorism.
“Now is not the time for blame or hollow speeches. The government must act, not just talk. And when it does, we in the Congress party will fully back any hard-hitting measures taken to defeat terrorism,” he said.
Borah also warned against giving space to divisive narratives in such a critical moment. “This is bigger than party politics. It’s a matter of national security. We all must speak in one voice and ensure that Pakistan gets the message loud and clear,” he added.
