Pala expresses reservation against setting up of check gates
Congress MP from Shillong, Vincent H Pala today said he is not in favour of setting up gates to check entry of people into the state.
“I am in favour of protecting the indigenous people but I am not in favour of putting up a gate and checking as people who will go to Guwahati from Silchar will be harassed and then our people going to Barak Valley will also be harassed,” Pala told reporters.
He also said that checking should not only be done in the main road but there it should be done by involving the traditional headmen at the village level.
Asked, Pala said, “I don’t say ILP but I think it should be modified ILP as not only influx you should also think about employment (opportunity for educated youths of the state).”
Stating that there are 22 gates from Ratacherra in East Jaintia Hills to Guwahati, the MP however said there is a need to have a proper system which is practical and pragmatic adding “I don’t think just by putting up a gate, our people are safe.”
