Pala terms Mawjymbuin controversy as BJP-NPP gimmicks to divert people’s attention
Congress chief and former Shillong MP Vincent H Pala on Thursday alleged that the controversy surrounding the Mawjymbuin cave is a “joint political gimmicks” of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and National People’s Party (NPP).
“These are all BJP-NPP gimmicks – to divert the attention of the people,” Pala told reporters.
The Kutumba Surakshya Parishad (KSP) has issued a 10-day ultimatum to the Meghalaya government, demanding the reopening of the Mawjymbuin Cave for Hindu rituals. The group has warned of blocking key roads of Meghalaya, including Jorabat near Guwahati, if their demand is not met before Christmas.
“The BJP has failed and the NPP has failed, drugs are all over. The economy has gone very badly. So these are joint gimmicks by the BJP and NPP together to divert the intention of the people. These are all under the control of the BJP. All NGOs are somehow this way or that way are related to them only,” he said.
“Because the people have criticized the government, they are looking for an opportunity to divert the attention of the people otherwise no religion can impose on anybody. We are tribals, we have our own culture, practice and system and villages have their own laws,” he stated.
