Panel concerns over delay to appoint MSCW chairperson
The Assembly’s Committee on Women Empowerment on Wednesday expressed concern over delay to appoint a new chairperson of the Meghalaya State Commission for Women (MSCW).
After chairing a meeting held with officials of the Social Welfare department here, chairperson of the committee Ampareen Lyngdoh told reporters that the absence of a MSCW chairperson would automatically disadvantage agendas of women.
“Many months have gone by and we’ve not seen any individual being installed in that position,” she said.
Lyngdoh said that the Principal Secretary in-charge of Social Welfare has informed the committee that the government is reviewing the rules, appointment procedures inclusive of the remuneration paid to the chairperson of the MSCW.
Apparently, the salary of the chairperson is only Rs 10,000 per month.
“(We were) assured that by the fourth week of April everything would be in order and we would be seeing installation of a new chairperson to the MSCW,” she said.
