PDF lauds CM for stripping home portfolio from his brother

SHILLONG: People’s Democratic Front (PDF) has lauded the chief minister Conrad K Sangma for his decision to relieve his elder brother and minister, James K Sangma of the home portfolio.

PDF leader and cabinet minister Hamletson Dohling told reporters on Thursday that the recent reshuffling of portfolios was after the ministers in the government have expressed their discontentment before the chief minister.

“The chief minister has listened to us and accordingly took away the home portfolio from James Sangma,” Dohling, who was also given charge of DCA, a department earlier held by the CM’s elder brother, said.

The PDF along with other coalition partners in the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government have expressed their unhappiness over the style of functioning of James especially in view of the alleged illegal transportation of coal in the state.

Asked, Dohling however said that the coalition partners have never demanded the removal of James from the cabinet. “We have only taken up the issues raised by the public to which the CM has taken a call as removal of any minister is not in our hand but is the prerogative of the CM,” he stated.
