PDF opposes move to make Hindi as a compulsory subject
The People’s Democratic Front (PDF), one of the coalition partners of the NPP-led MDA government on Wednesday expressed strong opposition against the Centre’s move to make Hindi as a compulsory subject up to class X in the North Eastern states.
Speaking to reporters, PDF president Banteidor Lyngdoh said the party has discussed and decided to express reservation against the recent statement of the Union Home Minister Amit Shah to make Hindi as a compulsory subject.
He said accordingly the party has decided to soon meet the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma to discuss the issue.
“We will meet him (CM) to discuss the matter,” Lyngdoh said. He however said it is important to learn other languages but it is also equally important to promote and preserve our local language by ensuring Khasi is included in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.
