Peace talk between Pnar & Karbi in Khanduli region inconclusive
The one month long stand-off between the Karbi community and the Pnar community continues as the peace talk on Tuesday between the two communities ended inconclusively as the Pnar community stick to their stand for removal of the Entry Tax Gate established by Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council or KAAC in Khanduli.
The peace talk jointly convened by the District Administration of West Jaintia Hills District and West Karbi Anglong District was held at Border Outpost of Assam in Khanduli village, West Jaintia Hills District.
Assistant Commissioner & Border Magistrate WK. Kharbuli, BDO Namdong C&RD Block B. Sungoh, & DSP AJ. Sangma represented West Jaintia Hills District Administration while the West Karbi Anglong District Administration was represented by Assistant Commissioner & Border Magistrate Rakesh Thakur & Circle Inspector Baithanglangso Circle Z R Khan.
Waheh Shnong Khanduli Yooshida Nongspung, MDC Barato Mukroh Aiborlang Shadap, Waheh Lapangap Deibormi Langdoh and local leader Pyrkhat Pyrphet & 6 other attended from the Pnar community while from Karbi community it was led by President Border Peace Development Committee Socheng Augustine Hanse, Adivser Anthony A. Teron, & Secretary Paul Kroo & 7 others.
Informing media persons after the meeting, Pyrkhat Pyrphet said the peace talk decide to maintain status quo by continuing with the restriction of movement of people and vehicles from both side. He also apprised that they will meet again to talk after the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) gives in writing that the entry tax gate in Khanduli stand abolish.
