People are VIPs, politicians are servants: Charles
Speaking against the VIP culture, the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) state president and Nongthymmai legislator Charles Pyngrope on Monday said, “VIP culture for what? It’s the people who are the VIPs. We (politicians) are servants of the people. We are not VIPs.”
Talking to media persons, Pyngrope asked the state government to review its notification as to who should be given such level of assistance.
“It is all by notification. Like tomorrow, I get a personal security officer, do I need him? I don’t think so. But there is a set of rules that has been laid down, which has been notified that so and so will have this level of assistance. Now only the police can tell you whether he requires it or not,” he said.
There should be a regulation on everybody. Why are they using it and why are they not using it that is for the government and the police department should do as see giving protection is the prerogative and under the police department to assess the situation and they jump to the conclusion whether or not a particular person irrespective whether he is VIP or not should receive extra protection of security. You don’t have to be a politician, you could be someone, you could be a religious person for that matter,” Pyngrope further stated.
