People of Khasi Jaintia region will support UDP in ADC polls: Kyrmen Shylla
UDP leader and cabinet minister Kyrmen Shylla on Wednesday expressed confidence that the people of Khasi and Jaintia Hills region will support the party in the upcoming elections to the KHADC and JHADC, slated to be held next year.
Speaking to reporters, Shylla said that the party is gearing up its preparation for the ADC polls.
“We have meetings from time to time within the party. The party is moving ahead. We are just waiting for the time to announce the candidates in all the districts. As of now, we are moving and we start preparing ourselves. Most of the candidates are requesting us for the ticket. When we finalised everything, we will come out with the names of the candidates,” he said.
He said that in the last MDC elections, people of the Khasi and Jaintia Hills region have given quite a good number of seats to the UDP.
“Therefore, this time also, we have high hopes. We have tried our best and we will prove it that our people will be with us and I have high hopes that they will not disappoint us (in the forthcoming elections),” Shylla stated.
The UDP leader also admitted that the party has learned its lesson from the MP elections and said, “We believe that people are having high hopes for the UDP and they will absolutely be with us.”
If the entry of the opposition VPP will affect the UDP’s prospect in the ADC polls, Shylla said any new political entrance is welcome as they have the right (to fight elections).
“(However), we are here not to compete with anyone but we are here to prove and show to the people that we are concerned and we really care and we will serve the people of the state. By being here it is not to show who is the best or just to play a blame game but we are here to serve the people,” he said.
Further, Shylla also expressed confidence that the people of the state will ensure the UDP gets more seats in 2028.
“We appreciate that they have given us 12 MLAs. We wish for more. We believe that if not 2023, 2028 hopefully people will give us more seats so that we will get a chance to prove ourselves and to give more justice and serve better,” he added.
