A group of qualified and registered pharmacists of Meghalaya on Friday demanded the state government to increase the job opportunities for the youth, who have completed the pharmacy courses by setting up Pharmaceutical Industries in the state.
A memorandum in this regard was also submitted by the group members – E Syiemlieh, B Sumer, W Suting and R Kshiar – to the Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh requesting necessary intervention and action.
Quoting information received through RTI, the pharmacists said that till date no recruitment through advertisement has been taken up by the government for the sanctioned post of pharmacist in the Directorate of Health Services till date.
“In this regard, we request you to kindly initiate a fair and inclusive recruitment whereby all pharmacist, sponsored and non-sponsored candidates are allowed to compete for the positions,” they said.
On the need to increase job opportunities, the pharmacists said, “We would like to request the government to increase the job opportunities for the youths who have completed pharmacy courses by setting up Pharmaceutical Industries in our state.”
They further suggested the need to increase the manpower of pharmacists to meet the IPHS standards in all the facilities such as district hospital, CHCs, PHCs and Sub-Centre besides appointing more drug inspectors at every district in the state.
