PHE Minister lays foundation for Water Supply Project in Lawsohtun
Meghalaya Minister in charge PHE Department, Samlin Malngiang today laid the foundation for the project, ‘Provision of additional water supply from Riat Tynrah spring source to Block I, Block II and Block III of Lawsohtun’ at a programme held at Basketball Ground, Lawsohtun, Block VI.
The project, funded under the Rural Development Infrastructure Fund (RIDF)-XXV at an estimated cost of Rs. 3,30,00,000( Rupees Three Crores and Thirty Lakh), was conceptualized with the aim of relieving the water scarcity faced by residents of Blocks I, II and III of Lawsohtun particularly during the lean season.
The foundation stone was laid in the presence of Minister in charge, Urban Affairs and Local MLA, Hamletson Dohling, Local MDC, Mitchel Wankhar, Chief Engineer, PHE Department, K D Talukdar, Additional Chief Engineer, PHE Department, D. War, Headman, Lawsohtun, Lurshai Shylla, village elders and others.
Minister in charge PHE Department, Samlin Malngiang informed that tender for the project has been called and the project is expected to commence in the month of October this year. He also commended the combined efforts of the village Dorbar, PHE officials and the Local MLA and expressed optimism that the project would help alleviate the problem of water scarcity faced by residents of the area.
Urban Affairs Minister also Local MLA, Hamletson Dohling in his speech sought the co-operation of all stakeholders to ensure timely completion of the project in the interest of the residents of Lawsohtun, particularly those of Blocks I, II and III
