Plying of overloaded trucks prohibited in Meghalaya
The District Magistrate, East Jaintia Hills District Khliehriat, E Kharmalki on Wednesday has imposed Section 144 of the CrPC prohibiting the plying of overloaded trucks along the National Highway 6.
The order was issued in order to stop and prevent such illegal plying of overloaded heavy vehicles along the National Highway 6 which has caused damage to the roads in the District after the incessant heavy rain during the past few months which has caused damage to the roads.
“Illegal plying of overloaded trucks along the National Highway 6 may cause danger to public lives as the road might collapse and also disruption of public traffic which may lead to public suffering,” the District Magistrate said in order issued.
“Heavy traffic are plying the National Highway 6 which further damages the road and all Heavy Loaded Trucks passing through the National Highway are required to restrict the load within the permissible net weight depending on axle combination of the types of vehicle that are plying on the road, as per the Notification issued by Transport Department Government of Meghalaya,” the order said.
Any Truck Drivers/ Transporters / Drivers violating the above will be punished as per Section 194 of the Motor Vehicle Act.
This Order come into force with immediate effect and until further Orders.
