PM Modi showcases Assam’s cultural brilliance at Jhumoir Binandini in Guwahati
Prime Minister Narendra Modi captivated audiences at the historic Jhumoir Binandini 2025 event held at Sarusajai Sports Complex, Guwahati. The spectacular evening highlighted Assam’s rich tea garden heritage, with nearly 9,000 artists delivering a record-breaking Jhumoir performance, mesmerizing 61 foreign delegates and a packed crowd.
Receiving a thunderous welcome, Modi expressed his deep connection to Assam’s tea culture, stating, “This magnificent display carries the fragrance and beauty of the tea gardens. And who knows tea better than a chaiwala?” His remarks resonated deeply, reinforcing his government’s dedication to Assam’s cultural and economic prosperity.
Modi praised the Assam government and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for curating the extraordinary event, emphasizing the vital role of the tea tribe and Adivasi communities in Assam’s identity. Recalling his 2023 visit, where 11,000 artists performed the Bihu Dance, he declared Jhumoir Binandini 2025 another milestone in the state’s cultural history.

Marking key achievements, Modi proudly announced the long-awaited designation of Assamese as a classical language and celebrated Charaideo Moidam’s induction into the UNESCO World Heritage list. He reiterated his role as a ‘cultural ambassador’ for the Northeast, referencing his stay in Kaziranga and efforts to globally promote Assam’s biodiversity.

The Prime Minister paid homage to Assam’s legendary warrior Lachit Borphukan, commemorating his 400th birth anniversary with grandeur, a Republic Day parade tableau, and the erection of a 125-foot bronze statue. He further highlighted the establishment of Janjatiya Gaurav Divas to honor India’s tribal warriors.

Expressing confidence that these measures would uplift Assam’s tea workers and accelerate the Northeast’s growth, Modi’s visit concluded on a high note. Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma honored him with traditional gifts, symbolizing Assam’s cultural pride.
The event was graced by Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, Union Ministers S. Jaishankar and Sarbananda Sonowal, Tripura CM Manik Saha, and Union MoS Pabitra Margherita. With its historical significance and cultural grandeur, Jhumoir Binandini 2025 cemented Assam’s position as a beacon of artistic excellence and heritage.
