PMGSY boosting economy in rural areas
As part of “India@75: Azaadi ka Amrit Mahotsav”, the office of the Superintending Engineer PWD (Roads), Eastern Shillong Circle on Friday organized a District Rural Road Seminar on the theme “Role of PMGSY in development of respective rural areas” at the Conference hall, PWD Secretariat, Shillong. Gavin M Mylliem, Sohra MLA graced the occasion as Chief Guest and Lyngkor Kynjing, SDO (Civil), Sohra Civil Sub-Division as Guest of Honour.
The seminar saw the participation of Programme Implementation Unit, PMGSY from various blocks under East Khasi Hills District and PWD contractors from the district.
Addressing the gathering, Gavin M Mylliem expressed happiness in being part of the nationwide celebration of Azaadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, which is a central government initiative to mark India’s 75 years of India’s Independence. Mylliem said that the celebration is based on 5 pillars, the struggle for independence, new ideas for the progress of the nation, the achievements achieved, the steps to be taken and the resolutions by the citizens of the country.
Speaking on the District Rural Road Sector, Mylliem opined that PMGSY has been a blessing to the rural villages in the district. Roads under PMGSY has seen a tremendous progress in terms of providing connectivity in rural areas, apart from connectivity better health infrastructure, proper education facilities and an upliftment in agricultural and tourism activities, which resulted in the increase of livelihood of the rural populace, he added.
Others who spoke on the programme include Lyngkor Kynjing, SDO (Civil), Sohra Civil Sub-Division, S Kyndiah, SE and DPC, PMGSY, East Khasi Hills District, P Hynniewta, DPIU, PMGSY, East Khasi Hills District among others.
