Police fires tear gases at protesting teachers

Police on Thursday fired tear gases after the agitating contractual teachers march to the secretariat.

In the incident, children of the teachers and pregnant mothers were also affected.

President of the Meghalaya Govt LP contractual teachers association Birbor Riangtem condemned the police action terming it as a violation of human rights.

He said the teachers were just demanding their rights. The teachers have decided to march to the secretariat after the state government did not call them for talks after they were staging sit in protest for the past one month.

They have demanded the govt to reinstate their services.
