Police not ruling out suicide in Mihmyntdu Woman’s Death Case
The death of Nimai Phawa, a mother of three small children continue to hang in the balance as the police are yet to draw a conclusion where she was brutally murdered or she ended her life by hanging herself to death.
Nimai Phawa was found in a lifeless position hanging by the wooden ceiling of her kitchen in her residence at Nein Shnong a locality within the jurisdiction of Mihmyntdu Village located at the immediate outskirt of Jowai Town, the district headquarter of West Jaintia Hills District, Meghalaya.
The gruesome sight was first seen by her first son who was merely seven years old at around 4.00 am on Monday’s morning and he raised hue and cry and went and report the death of his mother to his grand mother and other relatives.
Ironically, the first son himself had just narrow escape from the clutch of death as his step father Fortunate Pala attempted to kill by ordering him to walk through Myntdu’s River at Jowai By-Pass with the henious intention of killing him by drowning.
The boy had no choice but to obey what his step father asked him to do and the father left the spot: however due to divine intervention, the boy escaped as he managed to catch hold of tree’s branch and pulled himself to safety. He returned home only to see the dead body of his beloved mother.
Local people suspected that Fortunate Pala the second husband of Nimai Pala allegedly murdered her by hanged her to death after beating her up mercilessly.
Mihmyntdu Village Headman Abul Phawa told syllad.com that the deceased had recently filed an FIR against Pala for torturing her and taking away cash over Rs 2 lakh and her gold ornaments on June 30. However, they later compromised and the complaint was withdrawn., he added.
When contacted, West Jaintia Hills District Superintendent of Police Bikram D Marak said, “Till now we are taking it as suicide” but things will be clearer after the submission of post mortem report.
The police are yet to arrest Pala who has absconded from Jowai By-Pass till the filing of this report while the mortal remain of Nimai Phawa was handed to her near and dear for the last rite. She left behind three children including a six week old baby.
