JOWAI: Over 50 cattle were seized by the East Jaintia Hills District police on Thursday while they were allegedly being transported for smuggling to Bangladesh.
The incident took place at Sohshrieh village at around 8.30 pm when police along with members of the Khasi Students Union (KSU) and Jaintia Students’ Movement (JSM), East Jaintia National Council (EJNC) intercepted two trucks (ML 10 B 9079 & ML 05 S 6589) at a police check point in the village.
On checking, police found that the trucks were carrying 50 cattle which are suspected to be smuggled out to Bangladesh.
KSU leader from East Jaintia Hills Streamlet Niangti who was present at the spot alleged that a former MPUF president Dapoiwanmi Laloo had came and claimed that the trucks belong to him even as he had threatened to lodge a complaint against the members of the three NGOs.
