Police summons KSU leader, members over anti-CAA protests
Members of the Khasi Students Union (KSU) on Tuesday were summoned by the police in connection with the anti-Citizenship Act protests held last year.
Ostarnic Marbaniang, who was recently elected as the organizing secretary of the KSU central body, and two other members Johnny Khongsit and Garo Mawlieh appeared before the Sadar police station for questioning.
Later, KSU chief Lambokstarwell Marngar told reporters that the members were summoned due to protests staged against the CAA and demand to implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in 2019.
“While the Centre is examining the proposal to implement the ILP, the authorities here have started examining our members but we are fine with it as this is part of our struggle,” he said.
He however warned if there is any attempt to disrupt the struggle, the union will be compelled to take other course of action. Marngar also reiterated that the union is determined to ensure that the demand for ILP is achieved. He also stressed on the need for the government to bring other effective laws to help check influx and illegal immigration into the state.
