Poshan Pakhwada celebrated in East Jaintia Hills District
Poshan Pakhwada was celebrated in East Jaintia Hills District today at Jalaphet Bri Sumer (7 Kilo) Community Hall. The programme was organised by the the Office of the District Programme Officer in collaboration with all line Departments of the District. Dr. D Shylla, District Medical & Health Officer, East Jaintia Hills District was the chief guest of the programme. Addressing nutritional challenges through food forestry and organising Poshan Panchayats were the two key focus of this year’s programme.
Dr. D Shylla, District Medical & Health Officer, East Jaintia Hills District spoke on the first 1000 days of a child’s life from the moment they are conceived until they have reach 2 years of age. He pointed out the importance for a woman to consume nutritious food during pregnancy as the baby in the womb is dependent on the mother for nutrition. “Women should be mentally and physically healthy in order to give birth to a healthy baby”, he said.
He urged all the women to register and to go for routine medical check up during pregnancy so that all receive the required medication, vitamins and proper monitoring can be done during that period. He also said that children unpo 2 years of age should consumed nutritious diet which will boost their immunity to prevent them from sickness and diseases so that they will have a healthy future.
The District Child Protection Officer, East Jaintia Hills District, T Kyndiah spoke at length about POCSO Act, he urged the parents present at the gathering to build a close relationship with their children especially those under 18 years of age. He also spoke on the need to inculcate social values in mind of every child and also to monitor their growth, development and activities which is very crucial in shaping their future.
Earlier, R Bareh, Child Development Project Officer, Saipung Project spoke on topic Identification of SAM and MAM children. The programme was chaired by S Rymbai, District Coordinator, Poshan Abhiyaan Y. Najiar, District Programme Officer, DPO, ICDS (Cell) Jowai delivered the welcome address and C. Pale Child Development Project Officer, ICDS Khliehriat offered the vote of thanks.
To address the nutritional challenges, fruit saplings were also distributed to the Anganwadi workers of the district. Awards were also distributed during the programme, to the Anganwadi workers who have excelled in their works from each sector of both ICDS Projects.
