Preservation and promotion of traditional loin loom weaving stressed

First Lady of Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya Neelam Misra called upon the people to preserve and promote the traditional loin loom weaving of the Northeastern Region.

Neelam made the observation while screening of documentary ‘Celebrating loin loom weaving through Loin Loom weaving of Arunachal Pradesh’ at Assam Rifles Headquarters, Laitkor, near Shillong on Wednesday.

Neelam said that the rich tradition of loin loom weaving is prevalent only in North Eastern Region now.

“We must put in concerted effort in its preservation and encourage local weavers to carry it forward,” she emphasized.

She said that as most of the weavers of the NE region are women, loin loom weaving facilitates women empowerment and thereby guarantees Psocio-economic development of the people.

She said that the loin loom weaving tradition will contribute to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’ s vision of Aatma Nirbhar Bharat.

Neelam stressed that the products of the tradition of local weavers of the North Eastern Region must go from ‘Local to Global’ and must be the fashion statement of the Region.
