Prize for fishing competition restricted to Rs 1 lakhs
The District Magistrate, Eastern West Khasi Hills District in an order issued on 23rd August 2022 under Section 144 CrPC has imposed restriction and prohibited organizing of fishing competitions carrying a total prize of more than Rs.1,00,000 /- (Rupees One Lakh) at the time, collecting entry fee of more than Rs.100/- (Rupees One Hundred) per fishing rod and holding fishing competitions more than two times in one and the same pond.
The order was issued following complaints received that certain individuals used to organize fishing competitions in various fish ponds located within the district by offering high attractive prize money totalling up to Rs. 15,00,000/- (Rupees Fifteen Lakhs) with ticket entry fee of not less than Rs.500 /- (Rupees Five Hundred) per fishing rod per day and the order was necessitated to prevent misinterpretation and abuse of the provisions of the Amusement Act and exploitation of the poor with meagre earning and insecure livelihood.
Anyone found violating the order shall be prosecuted under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860.
