Prof. Marie Mc Andrew explores ethnocultural diversity in higher education during visit to USTM
The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) warmly hosted Prof. Marie Mc Andrew, Emeritus Professor from the University of Montreal, Canada, for a two-day visit on January 6 and 7. Her visit served as a pivotal moment for USTM, shedding light on ethnocultural diversity and the need for inclusivity in higher education.
The inaugural session featured a stimulating address by Prof. Mc Andrew on the theme “The Management of Ethnocultural Diversity in Higher Education.” Her talk sparked engaging discussions among students and faculty, emphasizing the importance of inclusive practices in academia—an essential conversation in today’s globalized environment.
A cultural touch graced the opening ceremony with a welcome song by B.Ed. students, setting a harmonious tone. Prof. Gayatree Goswami, Dean of PQH School of Education, delivered the welcome address, greeting Prof. Mc Andrew alongside distinguished guests, faculty members, and students from the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. G.D. Sharma honored Prof. Mc Andrew with a traditional Assamese gamosa and a memento, expressing heartfelt gratitude for her contributions. In his address, he highlighted the significance of her expertise in fostering academic growth at USTM.
Prof. Mc Andrew shared reflections on her academic journey, including her experiences in India during her Ph.D. years. She delved into the vast research opportunities in education, particularly within India’s diverse cultural landscape. Her insights inspired attendees, encouraging deeper exploration of ethnocultural diversity as a transformative area of study.
The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. B.K. Das, Pro Vice-Chancellor of USTM, marking the end of a day filled with thought leadership and cultural exchange.
