Prof Sherwin May Sungoh appointed as NEHU Pro-VC
Prof Sherwin May Sungoh has been appointed as the Pro Vice-Chancellor (PVC) of North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Shillong Campus.
This appointment was in pursuant to the resolution adopted by the Executive Council (EC) in its 85th Emergent Executive Council meeting held on November 14, 2024.
Prof Sungoh has officially assumed charge as Pro Vice-Chancellor with effect from March 21, 2025 and reported the joining to the Vice Chancellor Prof Prabha Shankar Shukla, said an official statement issued by NEHU here.
“Prof SM Sungoh is a distinguished academician and professor in the Department of Education at NEHU, Shillong Campus. With extensive experience in higher education, her research and teaching focus on pedagogy, curriculum development, and educational policy. She has contributed significantly to the academic growth of NEHU in the last several decades and has been actively involved in various research projects, publications, and administrative responsibilities. Her expertise in education will greatly benefit the university in her new role,” it said.
As per the NEHU Act and Statutes, the Pro Vice-Chancellor assists the Vice-Chancellor in the overall administration, academic affairs, and financial functioning of the University. In accordance with NEHU Act 13 and Statute 3 (3), the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Shukla, has delegated specific administrative, financial, and academic responsibilities to Prof Sungoh to facilitate the effective governance of the university. These delegated powers are subject to modification as per university requirements to ensure efficient functioning.
During her tenure as Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof SM Sungoh will be entitled to draw pay and allowances as prescribed by the UGC and the Ministry of Education, GoI, in alignment with the policies of NEHU. Her services will be governed by the terms and conditions set forth in Statute 3 (2) and Ordinance OE-1 of the University.

Heartiest Congratulations Prof Sungoh! You deserved to be the Vice Chancellor and I bring an Ex- NEHU official, can tell the world, NEHU would have been in much better position today, if you were selected by the Honorable President as the VC in place of the incumbent VC. Anyways,wish you all the very best and hopefully, NEHU shall come out of the crisis soon.

Warm congratulation to Prof. Sherwin May Sungoh on being appointed as Pro-VC of NEHU, Shillong Campus. Instead, you deserve to occupy the chair of the present incumbent just like Sir B. Pakem in 1990s. Had you been appointed by her Excellency the President of India as the Vice-Chancellor of NEHU instead of Pro-VC, the ongoing crisis in this prestigious educational centre would have been over. I hope, the Department of Education, GoI will honour the sentiments of the NEHU Community also.
