Prohibitory orders imposed along Indo-Bangla Border to stop smuggling
The District Magistrate, East Jaintia Hills District, E Kharmalki on Wednesday has imposed a prohibitory order under Section 144 of the CrPC to prohibits movement of persons on foot or vehicle/ carriage in public under the border belt from 8:00 P.M to 6:00 A.M.
The order was issued to prevent Trans border crimes including smuggling of any other illegal activities in the Border Belt with Bangladesh.
“Using of edged weapons, petrol bombs, crackers, lathi charge etc. against BSF or serious breach of peace besides annoyance/ injury to BSF personnel and sneaking into the Indian territory during night hours is strictly prohibited,” the order said.
This Order come into force with immediate effect until further orders.
The order was imposed after receiving reports from 97 BSF BN manning 51.320 Kms of International Boundary from BOP Khaliang to BOP Ratacherra that the entire area is prone to smuggling of cattle/contraband goods, betel nut, betel leafs, dry fish, bidi, cigarette, chai, patti etc. which may also be the medium of spreading the COVID-19.
It has also been reported that the smugglers and other anti-National Elements gather in large number near the international border during night hours to smuggle the aforesaid goods from India to Bangladesh and Vice Versa which has pose a threat to the efforts of the District Administration to contain the spread and transmission of the COVID-19 into the District.
The District Magistrate also said that such illegal, undesirable activities, transmission of COVID-19 should be prevented at the international border in order to maintain peace and tranquility in the District.
He also requests the public to strictly maintain personal hygiene and maintain social distancing, to frequently wash their hands with soap and water and to dispose of waste in the identified dustbin. All purchaser are requested to ensure due compliance to the advisories of Government in the Health & Family welfare Department. This Order shall come into force with immediate effect until further orders.
