Protestors violated Section 144 CrPC & bouldered their opposition to garbage of Jowai Town
In bid to pacify the peeved citizens of Jowai Town over the non collection of garbage from Iawmusiang, Jowai, the Jowai Municipal Board (JMB) make a futile effort to disposed the garbage in Thadmusem on Sunday but was met with stiff resistance from the local people.
The five trucks belonging to JMB with loads of garbage were escorted by armed police personnel and Executive Officer, JMB B Blah all the way from Jowai Town to the landfill area.
However on reaching the landfill area, the escort party were heavily outnumbered by the local people protesting under the banner of the Elaka Nartiang Coordinate Committee (ENCC).
Blah tried to convince the ENCC to allow them to unload the garbage at the landfill and also informed them that they violated prohibitory order under Section 144 CrPC.
But the protestors pay no heed to Blah who happened to be the BDO of the villages around the landfill. They feared that the disposal of garbage will give rise to health problems and also pollutes the water sources near the landfills.
Hammering their final nails of opposition, the protestors pushed down a large boulder for obstructing the road leading to the landfill.
The escort party and the five trucks retreated as they again met another failure despite having all machinery at their disposal.
Till the filing of this report, the five trucks loaded with garbage and emanating foul odours were seen parked at a distance from the heavily illuminated DC’s office, Jowai.
As per version of the ENCC leaders, the JMB authority undermined the authority of the Elaka Nartiang Dorbar as the latter were not taken into confidence by the former prior commencement of disposal of garbage in the areas.
Meanwhile, the Christmas decoration and lighting put up by the selfless efforts of the various localities of Jowai Town were spoiled due to non disposal of the garbage by JMB lying in Iawmusiang, Jowai since 21st December, last.
